Travel Stories

My tour of Scotland was absolutely incredible! From the breathtaking landscapes of the Highlands to the historic castles and vibrant cities, every moment was unforgettable. I loved exploring Edinburgh’s charming streets and soaking in the beauty of Loch Ness. The people were warm and welcoming, and the culture was rich with history and tradition. It was an adventure filled with stunning views, amazing food, and unforgettable memories!

I was initially nervous about traveling alone, unsure of what to expect and how I would navigate everything on my own. However, the tour group quickly put my worries to rest. From the moment we started, I felt completely supported and at ease. The guides were knowledgeable and attentive, and the group dynamic was so warm and welcoming. Everyone looked out for one another, which made me feel safe and comfortable throughout the entire trip. By the end, I realized how much more enjoyable and empowering it is to travel with such a great group of people, and I left feeling confident and inspired.

Heart of Scotland

Hello - My name is Mandi!

Please let me spend a few minutes with you and tell you about the next trip you want to take!

This was my first solo trip anywhere outside the North American continent. I was nervous. I reread all the tips and tricks a thousand times, I reviewed the packing list, and drove myself crazy trying to be prepared.  All of it was worth it.  Rick Steves website was a life saver for a nervous, over thinking person like me.  All I can say is read it all and do what it says.  I did and had the best trip, I can't wait to go with Rick Steve's Travel again.

I arrived early, used the guide book to walk myself around Inverness, had amazing fish and chips, listened to local  music and made it back to the hotel in time for jet lag to hit.  I slept a solid 10 hours and then felt super refreshed to meet the group the next day.   I'll share some small highlights below but I dont want to spoil anything.  I'm leaving it all to your imagination and the magic that is a Rick Steve's tour.

The distillery, wool mill and sheep dog farm were so fun and I learned so much. Whiskey with puppies, what could be better.

Inverness was everything advertised.  It was raining, romantic, small and the perfect beginning.

Urquhart after a tour of Lochness was magic and you could feel all the possibilities in the cold fresh air.

The crannogs, hermitage and St. Andrews were all so surprising. Don't miss the crannogs, it's so much more than you think.  And ask your guide for the pastry shop in St. Andrews or your taste buds might revolt.  Millionaires' shortbread is to good not to try.

Edinburgh is so special, I can't explain why and how fast you will fall in love with this city.  From the castle to the side streets everything here will draw you in and you'll want to stay forever.  Dont miss the tours, tons of free amazing museums, cemeteries and food.

The best for last!

The Group

One of the best surprises of the trip was how diverse the group was—people of all ages, from young college students traveling with their parents to seasoned travelers who had seen it all. It was heartwarming to see the college duo navigating Scotland with their parents in tow, and I couldn't help but chuckle at the thought of them all bonding over whisky on our hike and history lessons on the bus. Despite the age differences, I felt completely included, and it was amazing to meet people from all over, sharing stories, laughter, and even a few travel mishaps along the way. It truly made the whole experience feel like one big, happy family!

The Guide

Our tour guide was an absolute legend—she had an amazing sense of humor, she had this magical way of making every historical fact feel like a punchline, turning what could have been dry museum plaques into a comedy show with a side of history. Honestly, I probably learned more from her witty anecdotes and hilarious commentary than I did from any plaque in the museums. She made every stop feel like an inside joke, and by the end of the trip, I was as excited to hear her take on history as I was to see the sights. It’s safe to say, she made learning fun, and I’ll probably remember her stories more than any textbook!

I’ll never forget the bravest bus driver I’ve ever met. Not only did he navigate Scotland’s winding roads like a pro, but he also handled chaotic traffic like a problem-solving superhero, keeping us safe and on schedule. His calm and steady presence made us all feel at ease, no matter how tight the situation got. Truly, he was the unsung hero of the trip.

I hope to see you on my next trip!
